Open Water

$185.00

Open water stretches before your kayak — exhilarating and daunting at once. The effort to move yourself toward a distant shore falls solely to you, every stroke a choice, every gust of wind a new test. This original painting captures that exact feeling: the tension between uncertain challenge and the quiet payoff of arrival.

Every summer for years I've paddled across a broad sweep of the St. Lawrence River, hoping the wind will be on my side. The long crossing, the changing light, the rhythm of the paddle are all part of the journey. Reaching the sandy beach at Leek Island (Thwartway Island) — that small, welcoming strip of land — always makes the effort worthwhile.

This piece celebrates perseverance, the beauty of open water, and the simple joy of landing on shore. It’s a reminder that the most rewarding destinations are often reached one determined stroke at a time. Open Water is an original acrylic painting on a 10 × 10 inch gallery wood support.
